Aceon (Perindopril)

Drug Uses

Aceon is used by patients with stable coronary artery disease in order to reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality. This inhibitor is also often used to treat high blood pressure.

How Taken

The usual starting dosage is 4 milligrams daily, taken as a single dose or divided into two smaller doses. Your doctor may increase the dosage until your blood pressure is under control, up to a maximum of 16 milligrams per day.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Storage

Keep the product away heat, moisture and light. The temperature should be between 59–86F (15–30 C). Make sure children cannot reach it.

More Information

You may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment or you may not be able to take this drug at all if you have kidney or liver infection or if you have gastrointestinal problems. Aceon interact with the following products– phenytoin (Dilantin); tamoxifen (Nolvadex); tolbutamide (Orinase); torsemide (Demadex); fluvastatin (Lescol); a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin), heparin, ardeparin (Normiflo), dalteparin (Fragmin), danaparoid (Orgaran), enoxaparin (Lovenox), or tinzaparin (Innohep); (Activase), anistreplase (Eminase), dipyridamole (Persantine), streptokinase (Kabikinase, Streptase), ticlopidine (Ticlid), and urokinase (Abbokinase). Patients taking the above mentioned drugs should consult a doctor concerning the dosage and possibility of Aceon usage.

Warnings/Precautions
Aceon may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. These effects may worsen if Aceon is taken with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Aceon Tablets with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you take Aceon Tablets. Proper dental care is important while you are taking Aceon Tablets. Brush and floss your teeth and visit the dentist regularly. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Aceon should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects
Among the possible negative side effects are- severe neutropenia (low white blood cells), thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), hemorrhage (gastrointestinal hemorrhage and cerebral hemorrhage), headache, indigestion, flushing.
